POPIA-ready cybersecurity for Cape Town businesses.

POPIA, the Protection of Personal Information Act, is South Africa's data protection law, and its security safeguards condition requires technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. Innovo Secure provides the technical side for Cape Town businesses: managed EDR, firewalls, SIEM correlation, a 24/7 SOC, dark-web monitoring and immutable backups.

What is POPIA compliance?

A data protection law that depends on security.

POPIA is built around eight conditions for lawful processing of personal information, including accountability, security safeguards and openness. Condition 7, Security Safeguards, requires technical and organisational measures to prevent loss, damage or unauthorised access to personal information. A privacy policy alone does not meet that expectation, which is why POPIA compliance and cybersecurity belong together.

  • Managed EDR on every device, with firewalls and SIEM correlation
  • 24/7 SOC with rapid investigation and incident response
  • Dark-web credential monitoring and exposure reports
  • Immutable, tested backups and incident response playbooks

Innovo Secure provides technology and monitoring. Governance, such as policies and registering your Information Officer, remains your responsibility, and legal advice should come from a qualified adviser.

Where to start

Three practical first steps.

Take the free POPIA checklist

Answer 12 quick questions to see where you stand and what to fix first. Nothing leaves your browser.

Run a dark-web exposure report

We suggest starting with a dark-web exposure report and a review of your current defences.

Add monitoring and tested backups

A 24/7 SOC, managed EDR and immutable backups close the gaps that policies cannot.

How it works

From self-assessment to monitored protection.

  1. Self-assess

Use the free POPIA checklist to find your gaps.

  2. Review

A review of your current defences and a dark-web exposure report.

  3. Implement

We configure managed EDR, firewalls, SIEM correlation and backups.

  4. Monitor and respond

The 24/7 SOC watches your environment, with incident response playbooks ready.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

What is POPIA?+

POPIA is the Protection of Personal Information Act, South Africa's data protection law. It is built around eight conditions for lawful processing of personal information, including accountability, security safeguards and openness.

Does POPIA require cybersecurity?+

Condition 7, Security Safeguards, requires technical and organisational measures to prevent loss, damage or unauthorised access to personal information. If a breach occurs, the Information Regulator will ask what safeguards you had in place.

Does Innovo Networks make my business POPIA compliant?+

Innovo Secure provides the technical safeguards: managed EDR, firewalls, SIEM correlation, a 24/7 SOC, dark-web monitoring and tested backups, with POPIA-ready reporting. Compliance also needs governance, such as policies and a registered Information Officer, which remains your responsibility.

How quickly must a data breach be reported under POPIA?+

POPIA requires breaches to be reported to the Information Regulator and affected individuals as soon as reasonably possible after the responsible party becomes aware of the compromise. It does not set a fixed number of hours.

What is dark-web monitoring?+

Dark-web exposure reports surface leaked credentials, such as staff logins, so you can find out what is already exposed. We suggest starting with a dark-web exposure report and a review of your current defences.

What does Innovo Secure include?+

Managed endpoint detection and response on every device, firewalls, SIEM log correlation and alerting, dark-web credential monitoring, immutable tested backups, incident response playbooks and a 24/7 Security Operations Centre, using Fortinet, Sophos, Check Point, Kaspersky and Acronis technology.

How much does POPIA-ready cybersecurity cost?+

It depends on the size of your environment and the services you need, so we do not publish a single price. Call 021 811 3333 and an Innovo specialist will provide a quote.

Where is Innovo Networks based?+

Our head office is at The Forum, G07, North Bank Lane, Milnerton, Cape Town 7441. We provide 24/7 support from South African-based engineers and are a B-BBEE Level 1 contributor.
